Sometimes a Good Story is Better Than a Good Time
Some people collect stamps. I collect travel bugs. Over 20+ years of ill-advised adventures, I have contracted dengue fever in Honduras, battled a blood infection in the Togean Islands, and endured a minor surgery without anesthesia in Mexico.
Undeterred by pesky medical maladies, I tuk-tukked 2,000 miles across northern India, forded a stream in the back of a pick-up truck to make mezcal in Southern Mexico, got tear-gassed during a political uprising in Quito, and hunkered down in Buenos Aires for two months under the world’s strictest pandemic lockdown.
When I’m not scouting stories abroad, I’m cultivating community for social change organizations and writing about food, booze, science, technology, and culture from my home base in San Francisco. My stories have been published in Wired, Vice, The Atlantic, and Saveur, among others. I am available for freelance assignments anywhere in the world.
